Alesco invests in Upstream Energy Team with series of new hires

London, 17 August 2023: Alesco today announced a series of new hires in its upstream energy team based in London. Sophie Smith is joining as a Partner from Miller, where she has been for the last 16 years. Most recently, she was an Account Executive in the upstream energy team responsible for the development and placement of client programmes as well as client account servicing. At Alesco she will be focusing on the firms’ international client portfolio.


Ian Elwell has also joined Alesco with a focus on international clients. He has joined as a Partner having spent the last year at McGill & Partners and 16 years at WTW prior to this, supporting upstream energy clients on a global basis.

Poppy Dalton-Sykes is joining from Tysers as a Partner with a focus on North American clients. Poppy has been at Tysers for the last ten years, most recently as an Associate Director in its upstream energy practice. This is her second stint at the Gallagher group having worked at the firm before joining Tysers.

She is joined by Matthew Taylor who has joined as an Associate Partner, also with a focus on North America. Matthew joins the business from Amwins where he worked for the last four years as an Energy Broker. Prior to Amwins, he worked at Ed for eight years, as an Energy Claims Broker.

After 14 years, Matt moved to Alesco with a significant development role in terms of new business, placing and implementation of complex programmes worldwide.
