We are very pleased to announce the appointment of two further partners, Alison Schwab and Mark Smith, within its growing energy division.

Schwab will bring a new and unrivalled skillset to Alesco’s growing specialist energy division, focusing primarily on its energy casualty business. She began her role on 22 January reporting to Simon Clarkson, managing partner – energy at Alesco.

Schwab joins Alesco from Wortham Insurance in Houston where she held the position of director. She brings more than a decade of experience in energy casualty and a unique knowledge of the US retail market. Prior to Wortham, Schwab was with Lockton in Houston for eight years, and spent seven years as an environmental underwriter at AIG. Schwab has worked with multiple Fortune 500 companies where she has been integral to the development of complex casualty programs.

Speaking about her appointment, Schwab said: “Within the US, Alesco has a first class reputation as an independent broker, so relocating from Houston to London to join this impressive team was a big, yet natural, decision for me when the opportunity arose. I look forward to drawing upon my knowledge of the US retail market to strengthen the team further.”

Mark Smith will join Alesco’s technical team from AAA Insurance & Reinsurance Brokers in February. Smith brings significant experience gained from more than two decades in insurance broking, with particular expertise in technical trading within the African and Eastern European energy markets.

Smith commented: “I am incredibly excited to be joining such an established and well respected organisation. This new role will allow me to put my international expertise to good use as Alesco continues its international expansion.”

Simon Clarkson added: “In 2017 we had a dozen new team members join Alesco’s energy practice, with more than 100 across the wider business, so it’s great to continue that momentum in 2018 with these two equally impressive hires from the global broking world. At Alesco we take immense pride in attracting the best individuals within their specialist fields, so that we can be confident in our commitment to offer our clients expertise, knowledge and insight. I look forward to working with Alison and Mark and the rest of the energy team, as we strive to make 2018 Alesco’s most innovative and successful year yet.”
